I love to eat and I love to drink. But sometimes it's good to mix things up and do something that doesn't make you want to take a nap. Whenever friends come to town and want non touristy things to do, here's the list I give them:
Make New Friends
Every time a good friend of mine comes to town I make sure to visit a local gallery or contact a Savannah artist to see if we can stop by his or her studio for a quick hello. Savannah is known for its creative people, so meeting one is encouraged.
Address: Various.
Acoustic Tuesdays
If you're in Savannah on a Tuesday night, go to Foxy Loxy for a backyard hangout that makes you feel like a local while also living your best life. It's relaxing, and the talent level is high.
Address: 1919 Bull St, Savannah, GA.
Looney for Laney
My favorite gallery in town is Laney Contemporary Gallery. It's not located downtown and that's part of its appeal. The location, building and contents within are all gorgeous and noteworthy. Bonus: there is one very special room at the Gallery that makes you want to put on roller skates and disco dance the day away. You're welcome.
Address: 1810 Mills B Lane Blvd, Savannah GA.
Now Strut it Out
The best place to buy vintage in town is House of Strut. The owner is a delight and loves helping you find the frock of your dreams. If have commitment issues, you can even rent an item of clothing for a week and look your best while on vacation. Oh, check out their Facebook page because they regularly have music shows that are free or budget-friendly. The crowd is always friendly and well-dressed.
Address: 17 W 41 Street, Savannah GA.
Front Porch Improv
It goes without saying that I recommend everyone see a Front Porch comedy improv show while visiting the beautiful city of Savannah. What will you find? The performers take audience suggestions and in a split second begin to use them to create characters, scenes and sometimes even short plays (aka also called long-form improv).
Address: Theater at Bull Street Labs, 2222 Bull Street, Savannah GA 31401
